Smedsbo Slott Bryggeri is a small family owned brewery in the southernmost part of the Dalecarlia region in Sweden.
Being an artisanal brewery, we do everything by hand from brewing to filling the bottles and labelling them. This allows us to express the vision of our unique beers in each and every bottle.
(Sometimes the bottle filling is even done by a virgin (our son can’t be lying about that, I would know!)).
Sustainability
Most of our electricity comes from solarpanels. However, during the winter months the panels generate far from enough electricity so we
choose to minimize our beer production during these months. We also do not offer any beer tastings at our facility at that time, but instead focus our activities in the warmer spring, summer and autum months.
When buying ingredients for the beers we do our best to choose locally produced malt. For our breadstout we used bread from a local bakery (Skedvi Bröd), and for our Lingonsauer we used local lingonberries and the wheat is bought from a local farmer. The water that is the base for
all our beers comes from our own well.
We want to do more!
So we sent our brewer on a course in sustainable brewing. We learned that our biggest imprint on the climate is transports. This year (2026)
we have invested in a electrical wheeled loader for the use at the brewery.
We cannot do everything at once but we can take small steps in the right direction all the time.
We are now in the process of switching over to heritage crop varieties of malt. And when the finances allows we will update our delivery van to a more environmently friendly vehicle.
